A tax credit of up to $8,000 is still available for qualified first-time home buyers signing a binding sales contract to purchase a principal residence before April, 2010, and completing consstruction by June 30, 2010. Unlike the tax credit enacted in 2008, the new credit does not have to be repaid.
This credit will also apply to existing homeowners, but the credit amount is $6500.
